Purpose and Values
Luna Rossa is the Italian team representing the Circolo della Vela Sicilia in its Challenge for the 37th America’s Cup edition. The team is animated by vision, expertise and passion, the true driving forces behind its quest for this prestigious trophy. Going beyond the definition of team, Luna Rossa represents the highest expression of sportsmanship and technological innovation whose project, throughout the years, has won the hearts of Italians and of all sailing enthusiasts around the world.
Since its foundation in 1997, the Luna Rossa team has literally written the history of Italian and international sailing. The 37th America's Cup, to be held in 2024, is the team's sixth participation in the world's oldest sporting trophy.
With its two victories in the Challenger Selection Series, Luna Rossa has challenged the Defender of the trophy twice.
Luna Rossa’s greatest value is its team spirit, a guiding force that leads over 100 people towards one goal: to win the America's Cup. All team members share determination and motivation as they work in synergy, each contributing in highly specialized departments (shore team, design team, sailing team, service team).
The Italian spirit of Luna Rossa is embodied by the national excellence involved, starting from its sponsors, together with all its small and larger suppliers whose reputation for quality is renowned worldwide. The boat, as all of its components, is entirely built in Italy and its crew is almost entirely made up of Italian sailors.
The America's Cup is a mostly technological challenge and the AC75 Luna Rossa, a 75-foot flying monohull capable of reaching speeds close to 50 knots (approximately 100 km per hour), represents the state of the art of innovation and naval design destined to leave a mark in the yachting industry of the near future.
A strong commitment to generational change has allowed the team to ensure continuity in Luna Rossa’s challenge over all these years. Thanks to the support of the most experienced team members, the New Generation project is a valuable training program for talented young sailors.
