PRADA RE-NYLON

A vital component of Prada’s heritage and a hallmark of its approach to contemporary fashion, nylon is an emblem of the brand’s DNA.

The Prada Re-Nylon project represents a commitment to sustainability and truly responsible practices. The Group has converted all the production of virgin nylon into regenerated nylon.

As of July 2023, 1% of Prada Re-Nylon Collection proceeds supports SEA BEYOND.

“Our commitment to Prada Re-Nylon highlights our continued efforts towards promoting responsible business. This collection allows us to make our contribution and create products without using new resources.”

Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada Group Head of Corporate Social Responsibility

THE COLLECTIONS

Prada Re-Nylon was launched in 2019 with a capsule collection of bags for men and women. The following year, the product line was expanded into Prada ready-to-wear, accessories and footwear.

2024 CAMPAIGN

The Prada Re-Nylon 2024 campaign – comprising timeless, enduring pieces - features actors and activists Emma Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch photographed by Willy Vanderperre, portraying Prada Group’s ongoing partnership with UNESCO for ocean preservation.

2019 COLLECTION

Launched in 2019, Prada Re-Nylon – comprising accessories and ready-to-wear for men and women – epitomises a fundamental duality of Prada’s identity; innovation in spirit, responsibility in action. Placing sustainability at the heart of a fashion collection, Prada Re-Nylon has instigated a shift across the brand as a whole. Today, production of all Prada virgin nylon has been converted to regenerated nylon, a radical commitment to sustainability by a major luxury house.

PARTNERSHIP WITH AQUAFIL

The Prada Re-Nylon project is the result of a partnership between Prada and Aquafil, an Italian textile yarn producer with over half a century of expertise in creating synthetic fibres. Aquafil is renowned for its investment in groundbreaking research and development of sustainable materials, producing new from old.

Prada Re-Nylon is made of ECONYL®, a regenerated-nylon yarn that can be recycled an indefinite number of times without affecting the quality of the material. ECONYL® yarn is made by recycling discarded plastic collected from landfill sites and oceans across the whole planet.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

1

Gathering of waste materials: fishing nets, discarded nylon, carpet and industrial waste are sorted and cleaned to maximise the quantity of recovered nylon

2

Regeneration and purification: through a chemical de-polymerization procedure, the nylon waste is recycled right back to its original purity

3

At production plants in Ljubljana, Slovenia and Arco, Italy, the recycled materials are re-transformed into polymers and threads through a new polymerization process

ECONYL IN NUMBERS For every 10,000 tons of ECONYL® created
